Mettawee Community School Sports Expectations

Parents should leave the officiating to the officials, the coaching to the coaches, and the playing to the players and focus on the life lessons young people take away from sports.

General Sports Expectations:

  • Our school wide expectations of Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible will extend into our sport programs. We’ve asked our coaches to follow the same guidelines.

  • Please trust that our coaches are doing their best and are always making decisions based on what is best for each individual, as well as the team.

  • If you have a concern that you’d like to address with the coach, please wait 24 hours and then send them an email to discuss in further detail. They should always be your first point of contact.

    • Please do not approach the coach during a game or practice.

  • Students must be present in school in order to participate in practices and games.

  • Students must remain positive and engaged, especially during game time (even if they are on the bench).

    • If students are not following the school wide expectations, they will not be allowed to participate in the game.

    • Cell phones cannot be used during practices and games.

General Game Expectations:

  1. Show Up - There is no bigger game-time boost than a crowd of supportive fans. Please come out and support your player and their teammates.

  2. Cheer For Our Team - Encourage our athletes by celebrating their successes and supporting their growth throughout the season.

  3. Appreciate Our Opponents - The word compete means to “struggle with.” Without our opponent, there is no competition. Cheer for our team, never against an opposing team or an individual player.

  4. Support The Cause - Professional athletes are paid to perform for our entertainment. Education-based athletics are an extension of the classroom. Interscholastic athletes are here to develop our Core Values. Be patient while learning takes place.

  5. Give The Officials Some Love - They do a thankless job and without them there is no competition. The pool of people willing to officiate continues to get smaller. Fan behavior is the number one reason given by officials who leave the game.

  6. Make Us Proud - Athletics is often the first impression people have of our school. Long after your child graduates it will be the easiest way to remain part of Mettawee. Be a positive role model.
