A little rain failed to halt the Halloween merriment at the Mettawee Community School (MCS). While the final holiday parade moved inside due to inclement weather, the young ones from MCS had multiple opportunities to celebrate the month of the Great Pumpkin.
Earlier in October, students journeyed on a field trip to a pumpkin patch for a harvest of round orbs. The crops gathered ultimately made their way back to the halls of Mettawee and family homes to serve as decorations for the holiday.
Mettawee students and parents also took part in a pumpkin decoration process. Award winners for each category include:
Best Character: Dog Man from the “Dog Man” book series and new Pixar movie (1st Grader)
Best Food: Cupcake (4th Grader)
Best Animal: Raccoon (1st Grader)
An all-school assembly in the gymnasium became the focus of the final showcase of holiday cheer. The celebratory gathering was led by Mettawee 5th and 6th graders who serenaded the throng with songs “The Old Woman” and “The Ghost of Tom.”
The Halloween magic continued as costumed creatures such as wizards, witches, skeletons, superheroes, inflatable characters and much more took center stage by grade to showcase some Halloween Magic. Even the staff joined in the fun with costumes that featured chefs adorned with hats, red aprons and a label of a favorite spice.
